Band History

All Girl Summer Fun Band (AGSFB) was formed during the summer of 1998.  The original four members of the band were Kim Baxter, Jen Sbragia, Kathy Foster, and Ari Douangpanya.

The current members are Kim Baxter, Jen Sbragia, and Kathy Foster.

Here’s how it all began....

In 1998 Jen was in a band called The Softies.  She met Kim at one of their shows in Portland, Oregon at a venue called Thee O. Being a fan of the Softies, Kim gave Jen and her band mate, Rose, a cassette tape of her band, Cherry Ice Cream Smile.  The two took the cassette tape on their tour with them, liked what they heard, and when Jen returned home to Portland she gave Kim a call.  The two became instant friends.  In fact, Jen even learned a Cherry Ice Cream Smile song on guitar and played with the band during their last performance at 17 Nautical Miles.  After Cherry Ice Cream Smile broke up, Kim decided that she would like to put together an all girl summer fun band.  The premise for the band was just that, it would be an all girl band that would play fun songs and would only last until the end of the summer (she was leaving that fall to spend a semester abroad in St. Petersburg, Russia).  Jen, along with Kathy and Ari, were asked by Kim if they would like to join the band.  They all agreed and were introduced to one another during their first band practice. An instant friendship was born.  They wrote songs and practiced in the basement of the Rocket House in Portland, a house occupied by their good friends in the band Kissing Book. By July they had written enough songs to play a show and were asked to play at the Magic Marker house with The Push Kings, Kissing Book, and Tullycraft.  The band members agreed that the description for the band would make a perfect band name, and so “All Girl Summer Fun Band” was printed on the flier.

When Kim returned home from Russia in 1999, the band started right back up where they had left off.  That year they recorded and released a 7” record on Magic Marker Records, toured with The Softies, and continued playing shows and writing new music.  AGSFB went on to record two full-length albums, which were released on Olympia’s K Records.  They have gone on numerous tours, including one to Europe, and on September 23, 2008, they will be releasing their third full length album on their own label, AGSFB Music.

In 2004, Ari had an adorable baby boy and decided that she would like to focus her attention on being a new mom. Kathy, Jen and Kim decided that they would continue playing as a 3-piece band.  To find out more about the current band members, check out the
